The National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe (NMMZ) hosted a spectacular event last week where 10 schools from across the nation battled it out in the highly anticipated National Heritage Quiz Competitions.
The event was graced by esteemed guests including the Honorable Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Kazembe Kazembe, and Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Owen Mudha Ncube, alongside Chief Bunina and other dignitaries.
With enthusiastic participation from schools like 3 Brigade, Solusi SDA, and Victoria Junior, the competition was fierce from the start. Led by the skilled guidance of quiz master Mr. Murenga, teams engaged in five rounds of challenging questions covering the past, object identification, science, nature, and general knowledge.
The atmosphere was electric, with performances by Midlands school’s drum majorettes, Mbizo High School band, local traditional dance groups, and the dynamic Zim dancehall chanter Mukudzei.
Amidst the excitement, Acting Executive Director of NMMZ, Mr. Darlington Munyikwa, extended a warm welcome, setting the stage for an unforgettable event.
Ministers Kazembe Kazembe and Owen Mudha Ncube delivered inspiring speeches, emphasizing the importance of heritage-based education. Minister Kazembe even granted two lucky pupils the opportunity to elucidate on the significance of monuments commissioned by His Excellency, Cde Dr. E.D. Mnangagwa.
After a nail-biting finale, David Livingstone Primary School of Harare Province emerged as the undisputed champions, with 3 Brigade Primary from Manicaland securing a commendable second place. Cecil John Roads of Midlands Province clinched the third spot, amidst ties that were broken by the insightful questions posed by Minister Kazembe.
The winners were showered with prizes and accolades in the presence of the distinguished guests, marking the culmination of an extraordinary celebration of Zimbabwe’s rich heritage. The event served as a testament to the nation’s commitment to preserving its heritage.
Capping off the memorable occasion, the National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe (NMMZ) extended a heartfelt gesture to the Honorable Minister Kazembe Kazembe. In recognition of his unwavering dedication to preserving Zimbabwe’s heritage, Minister Kazembe was presented with a special gift, a portrait capturing the majestic front entrance of the Naletale National Monument.
This symbolic token of appreciation served as a poignant reminder of the importance of safeguarding the nation’s historical treasures. Minister Kazembe graciously accepted the gift, expressing his gratitude for the honor bestowed upon him.
