International Museums Day Commemorations (19th of May 2017)

All roads lead to Mutare Museum on the 19 th of May 2017, to commemorate International Museums Day. On this day, museums throughout the world engage the public on a particular agreed theme that connote the role museums play as institutions that serve society and its development.

The theme chosen for 2017 is: “Museums and contested histories: saying the unspeakable in museums”. The event in Mutare and the activities will evolve around this theme. Five Primary Schools namely; John Cowie (Eastern Region), Cecil John Rhodes (Central Region), Gutu United (Southern Region), Mpumelelo (Western Region), and Warren Park 4 (Northern Region) will be fighting for top honours in the Heritage Education Quiz Competition for Primary Schools. These schools are the crème de la crème from their respective regions.

The activities lined up for the event include speeches; traditional dances; touring of a temporary exhibition; march by drum majorettes, the highlight being the Heritage Education Quiz for Primary Schools.
